The story of Mutiara Laut is built upon the life and passion of Leendert Philippus Van Oostenbrugg, or Leo, a Dutch yacht captain and shipyard owner. As his final masterpiece, Leo combined his love for sailing and the Indonesian islands to create the stunning Mutiara Laut.
Leo’s life was driven by the sea. He spent his early years as a yacht captain, sailing around the world six times, gaining the knowledge and experience that would guide his future. After founding a successful shipyard in Holland and building yachts for others, Leo retired to Bali. However, he wasn’t ready for a quiet life just yet. On a sailing trip in Indonesia, he was inspired by the beauty of the distant islands and decided to build his own ‘phinisi,’ a traditional Indonesian schooner, but with Western design influences from his travels.
Over three years, Leo oversaw the creation of Mutiara Laut, blending a Kalimantan ironwood hull with his vision of a classic sailing yacht. His dream was to build a ship where guests could escape the chaos of life and reconnect with nature. Thanks to the work of skilled Indonesian craftsmen, his dream came to life.
Mutiara Laut was designed after traditional Indonesian ships, but with modern comforts for long journeys. It was unlike any yacht seen before in Indonesia. When Leo first saw it sail, it was a proud moment. Tragically, he passed away just two weeks later. Yet, his legacy lives on in Mutiara Laut, a beautiful reminder of his love for sailing and the sea.

Boat Cabins & Layout
The Mutiara Laut can accommodate up to 14 guests on each trip. This small number of guests on a large ship ensures a unique sense of privacy and less crowded scuba diving. There are 7 double-occupancy cabins, mainly located on the lower deck, providing plenty of space for social areas throughout the yacht.
On the lower deck, there are 6 cabins, each with air conditioning and a private bathroom. Additionally, the main deck features a master suite, which is more spacious than the other rooms and has access to a semi-private deck.
